Governors
Each school within ELAN has a local governing body (LGB). The Governing Body of Banwell Primary School is a group of people drawn from our community who volunteer our time, energy and expertise to support the management of the school and oversee the performance of the senior leadership team (SLT). We are collectively accountable to all school stakeholders – pupils, parents, staff, the local authority and Ofsted. The LGB is responsible for:
- setting the school's vision, ethos and strategic direction
- holding the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils
- overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.
We welcome your feedback and ideas about the school so please don't hesitate to approach us at school or drop a letter into the office addressed to the Chair of the Governors or email the Chair of Governors directly.
Mr Alex Clark, Chair of Governors, alex.clark@banwell.extendlearning.org
Information about the governors
The Department for Education (DfE) requires schools to publish some specific information about all those who have served on its Governing Body over the previous school year. The meeting attendance percentages do not represent total governor activity: most governors also undertake a great deal of other work for our school, which is not reflected in these statutory figures.
Please find below details of how our governing body is structured, including the names, categories, responsibilities and terms of appointment for each Governor.

How do I become a Banwell school governor?
Being a governor is a rewarding way of making a voluntary contribution to the lives of local young people.
We don’t expect you to be an expert in education, we welcome governors from all walks of life to bring different perspectives and views. You just need to be interested in supporting our school, community and the educational outcomes of our pupils. In all decision making, the governors are committed to ensuring that the best interests of all children in the school are the highest priority.
If you are interested in becoming a governor, please download and complete governor application form and return it to office@banwell.extendlearning.org
Undertaking the role of being a governor is rewarding and a way of contributing to the local community. We encourage applicants with a breadth of experience, not only in education, to join us in ensuring the best outcomes for all our pupils.
